I’ve imported a large PDF to excel and get the following message:

DataSnipper is still processing your previous action, please wait…

Is there a way to cancel the import because I can’t use excel or datasnipper while waiting for this to process?

Hi @James12345 welcome to the DataSnipper community 😊

I’ve seen this happen once before, but it might need further investigation from our support team (which you can easily reach at support@datasnipper.com).

Before that though, there might be a few things we can do. I would suggest these in order:

  • Press Esc a few times. This can interrupt some long-running Excel add-in operations.
  • Minimize and restore the Excel window. Sometimes this prompts Excel to show a “Cancel” option if one is available.
  • Close the workbook window. If prompted, choose “Don’t Save” for the stuck state, then reopen your last saved version.
  • If it’s still stuck, force close Excel:
    • Windows: Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc → Task Manager → select Microsoft Excel → End task.
    • Mac: Apple menu → Force Quit → Microsoft Excel → Force Quit.

If you end up needing to restart Excel, a couple of steps you can take afterwards are:

  • Reopen your file and confirm everything looks good from your last save.
  • If you need to import the same PDF again, use these tips to avoid another stall:
    • Import a page range instead of the entire PDF in one go.
    • Split the PDF into smaller files first, then import sequentially.
    • Close other large workbooks and apps to free memory.
    • Use 64-bit Excel if possible for large files.
    • Save your workbook before each import chunk so you can quickly revert.

The above seem like a lot, but if you can share the file with us, you could do so through the email address above and we can check if this is an issue with the file or one we could further help with.

Let me know how this goes @James12345, we’ll solve this surely 😊
